About Agrisensor


Agriculture has always been the mainstay of the economy of Bangladesh. In general, agricultural growth has contributed positively towards the overall economic development of the country. Per capita income in Bangladesh has risen from $1,190 to $1,314, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS, 2015).

The agriculture sector employs 63% of the workforce and the contribution of this sector to the GDP is about 22.83%, while the major share comes from the service sector (49.37%) and the rest (27.80%) from the industries sector (Bangladesh Economic Review, 2004). Approximately 54% of the population is illiterate and live in rural areas and 47% are still living below the poverty line (A Multi-Media Case Study, 2002).Most Bangladeshi farmers have remained quite poor. The causes include: lack of acquisition of contemporary agriculture techniques &practices, lack of access to price information, scarce market facilities, improper storage facilities, lack of ability in post-harvest handling and food processing, insufficient knowledge of high yielding varieties, and lack of bargaining power and commercial relationships.

Bear all these in mind, the proposed project aims to provide the solution of the crop cultivation and livestock health.  It could be a dynamic and integrated approach, which can be applied to any farming system in Bangladesh and other developing countries. It could be involved the best of modern tools and technologies especially communication devices and app-based technologies with traditional practices according to a given site and situation.


Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) is one of the leading research-based public university in Bangladesh in Agricultural, with long time tracing of global agriculture development, BSMRAU found that iSoftStone  Information Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. is an ideal partner of this project which has long term R&D deposition in modern agriculture chain and strong international spreading will. After several rounds of negotiation, both 2 parts reach an understanding of long-term cooperation on this project.


For creating Agrisensor (first phase) 

  1. Develop and introduce low cost modularized land information reading device.
  2. A database will be developed using the information generated by (1).
  3. Information gathered in the database will be filtered and analyzed according to the farmers’ need.
  4. Farmers’ friendly android-based apps will be developed using the processed information.
  5. An e-village will be set up in the village with a server, network equipment, etc. and touch screen.
  6. Farmers will be trained up to be a successful end-user of the developed apps.
